It is important to keep in mind that people can approach healing, medicine and healthcare in different ways, these approaches are molded from learning and culture. One approach is not always the best approach, and we need to be open to understanding and respecting different approaches. 

Through church, many communities learned about health, education, and social justice. Churches became more than a place of faith and religion, but a place of education and advocacy.


When we speak of Indigenous communities’ connection to nature, we must recognize the importance that sacred medicines play in Indigenous cultures. These sacred medicines are tobacco, cedar, sage, and sweet grass.
