Workshop 3 Part 2: Strengthening Positive Emotions

In this part, we will do two valuable activities to help us develop a foundation for positive thinking habits and learn new ways to foster strong and positive relationships to work together. 

A. Practicing Gratitude

The first exercise is centred around gratitude. 

Some of the benefits of gratitude include 

  • Reduction of stress

  • Increased feelings of happiness

  • A positive mood

  • Increased sleep quality

  • Increased emotional tranquillity, and

  • An increased sense of hope


A gratitude practice helps you appreciate what you have and moves your focus away from the negative. Instead of focusing on the negative, we accentuate the positive.

Reflect on a person you are grateful for and why you are grateful to them. Write any reflections here.


Over the next 24 hours, please reach out to the person you wrote down and share your gratitude. However you feel comfortable, you can do this via text, email, or phone call. You likely felt great thinking about this person and recognizing their contributions to your life. Now imagine how great that will feel to receive as the person.
